The St. John’s Status of Women Council operates the Women’s Centre, Marguerite’s Place Supportive Housing Program and the Safe Harbour Outreach Project.

Position Summary
The St. John’s Status of Women Council is leading a ground-breaking new project that will make a significant contribution to the research and policy gap associated with domestic violence (DV) and its effect on the provincial labour market. This project will address the need for provincial data on DV, facilitate knowledge transfer among partner organizations, and aid DV survivors in obtaining and retaining employment.

The successful candidate for this position will prepare DV survivors for future skills requirements in the labour market. They will research and develop a pilot program to assist DV survivors in successfully entering the labour market and securing employment. Additionally, they will work with employers and employees throughout the province to provide education on the negative effect of DV in the workplace and create resources to develop policies and strategies for combating that negative effect.

This work is part of a three-year project. This position will work closely with the Senior Women’s Economic Policy Analyst (SWEPA) as they actively pursue provincial DV Leave legislation.

Responsibilities
• Collaborating with the SWEPA in developing, establishing, implementing, and evaluating project initiatives including employment options for survivors of DV.
• Creating and disseminating resources to guide the development of workplace policies/strategies to address DV.
• Building and cultivating positive working relationships with employers and their employees.
• Connecting with people to facilitate, train, coach, and collaborate on issues related to DV and the workplace.
• Research, writing, and policy development.
• Facilitating meetings, consultations, and presentations.
• Must be able to travel within the province.

Qualifications
• Master’s degree (policy, gender studies, economics or other related studies) required.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in research (qualitative and quantitative), writing, policy development, and providing gender-based analysis.
• Extensive knowledge of domestic violence.
• Extensive knowledge of gendered labour force issues and use of labour force data.
• Experience as a lobbyist/advocate.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated analytical, time management, communication (verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills required.
• Demonstrated leadership, delegation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills involving innovation/creativity in solution development.
• Proven leadership, goal development, and evaluation skills.
• Experience working in an inclusive and diverse environment, (i.e. working with Indigenous, LGBTQI2S, trans, and sex working women).
• Bilingualism is an asset.

Hours of Work
35-hour work week; hours are flexible. Must be able to travel as required.

We are seeking a dynamic, feminist counsellor to oversee our innovative Right Here, Right Now drop-in single session clinic, and to facilitate group work and individual advocacy. This position will provide supervision and support to our team and offer counselling and community education and awareness.

This unique position is perfect for an experienced counsellor with administrative and team lead experience, who is ready to help guide our counselling service to the next level.

Position Summary
This position coordinates and oversees all clinical services at the St. John’s Women’s Centre, including the Right Here, Right Now drop-in counselling clinic, group work, individual advocacy, and crisis intervention.

The Team Lead will facilitate a learning environment whereby team members are supported to work to their full scope of practice. The Team Lead will be proficient in single session counselling and supervision, and demonstrate excellence in leadership, role-modeling, communication and organizational skills, problem solving, and decision-making.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide counselling within our single session drop-in clinic, facilitate group work and individual advocacy.
• Facilitate ongoing orientation and learning for new and transferring staff, as well as student
placement initiatives.
• Mentor staff through supporting, teaching, role modeling, and coaching.
• Identify clinical issues requiring staff education and work collaboratively with the team and
community to address learning needs.
• Role model professional practice and promote best practice.
• Collect and analyze data and write reports.
• Act as a clinical resource for staff.

Qualifications
• Certified counsellor or M.S.W required.
• Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience. Preference given for experience in community mental health, women-centred therapeutic work.
• Proven competency in single session, narrative, and feminist therapy.
• Experience with group work, advocacy, and crisis intervention.
• Experience working with women and substance misuse.
• Demonstrated time management, communication (verbal and written), organizational and
interpersonal skills required.
• Demonstrated leadership, delegation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills involving
innovation/creativity in solution development.
• Proven team building, leadership, goal development, and evaluation skills.
• Experience working in an inclusive environment, working with trans, Indigenous, LGBTQ, and sex working women.

Hours of Work
Monday-Friday (9 a.m.-5 p.m.), some evenings and weekends as required.

Position Summary

The St. John’s Status of Women Council is leading an exciting new project that will make a significant contribution to the research and policy gap associated with domestic violence (DV) and its effect on the provincial labour market. This project will address the need for provincial data on DV and facilitate knowledge transfer among partner organizations with the ultimate goal of achieving DV Leave legislation in Newfoundland and Labrador.

To oversee this three-year project, we are hiring a full-time Senior Women’s Economic Policy Analyst. This individual will conduct a needs assessment, consult with women throughout the province, compile and analyze data, create resources, and work directly with partner organizations and the provincial government to pursue provincial DV Leave legislation.

Responsibilities

• Research, writing, policy development, and advocacy.

• Following a business plan and setting priorities meeting clear targets.

We currently operate the Women’s Centre, Marguerite’s Place Supportive Housing and Safe Harbour Outreach Project.

This is a very exciting time for our organization, as we are actively growing our membership, programming, and outreach activities. To help achieve our goals, we need an energetic, creative thinker who is deeply passionate about feminism and equality to join our team as Development and Communications Coordinator.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, your role will have two interrelated parts: fund and organizational development, and communications management. This is a full time, one-year contract position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Fund and Organizational Development:

• Develop a fundraising plan for the organization with short and long-range goals
• Create new and imaginative fundraising activities and revenue streams
• Source and evaluate potential donors and foundations for funding opportunities
• Seek out grants and write proposals
• Develop revenue and expense reports for fundraisers and events
• Manage donor stewardship
• Work collaboratively with members, volunteers, key stakeholders and community partners

Communications:

• Lead event communications, media, and networking activities
• Build new opportunities to increase community awareness
• Handle media relations
• Create event, campaign, and collateral materials such as posters and newsletters
• Maintain and update website content
• Manage SJSOWC’s social media channels
• Provide monthly analytics reporting on communications activities
• Contribute to team meetings and the ongoing development of the organization
• Support a healthy and vibrant work environment

Qualifications

• Degree in a related field/equivalent experience will be considered
• Minimum 3 years fundraising experience in the not-for-profit sector
• Experienced in content creation and management for web and social medias
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities
• Strong presentation and networking skills
• Media relations experience is an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as your preferred graphic design software
• Familiarity with fundraising research methods, tools and procedures
• AFP membership an asset
• Ability to work some flexible hours when needed
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
• Vulnerable Persons check.

We are hiring: RELIEF HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER

RELIEF HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER

 The St. John’s Status of Women Council (SJSWC) is a feminist organization that since 1972 is continually working to achieve equality and justice through political activism, community collaboration and the creation of a safe and inclusive space for all women in the St. John’s area. The SJSWC operates the St. John’s Women’s Centre, Marguerites Place Supportive Housing and Safe Harbour Outreach Project (SHOP).

Marguerite’s Place Supportive Housing Program is a supported living program delivered within a safe and secure women only environment. Residents are supported by a team of professional staff, who provide individualized case management, ongoing programming and 24 hour support and crisis management. We strive to assist individuals with complex needs identify and overcome barriers that prevent them from successfully accessing and maintaining safe and independent housing in the community.

We are currently seeking Relief Housing Support Workers to fill shifts as required for vacation relief, sick leave, etc. Shifts may be pre-booked or filled on an on-call / emergency basis. This position is single staffed for 8 and 12 hours shifts for evenings, overnights and weekends.

Qualifications

 Completion of post-secondary education preferably in human services. A combination of the following skills and experiences is an asset:

  • Post secondary degree in human services or equivalent
  • Experience working in a women’s shelter/housing (or other direct service delivery to homeless women)
  • Experience working with survivors of trauma, abuse and consumers of mental health preferred
  • Strong written & oral communication skills
  • Ability to work shift work

Hours of Work – Relief positions provide coverage to a variety of shifts as needed Salary  Step 1 – $19.50 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
